After the storm
Hail, wind and tornado damage is what we do most. Here is what to do in the first 48 hours, and what we do after that.
The first 48 hours
Stay off the roof
Photograph what you can see from the ground and from inside. Shingles in the yard, dented gutters, water spots. Do not climb up.
Stop the water
If it is leaking, call us. We tarp and dry-in the same day, and emergency work is almost always covered by the policy.
Get it documented before you file
Send us your photos. We inspect for free, and you file the claim already knowing what the damage is. That is the single biggest advantage you can have.
Do not sign with a door knocker
Out-of-state crews follow every storm. Ask for a Missouri or Illinois address, a certificate of insurance, and references you can call.
What your photos tell us
When you add photos to your claim online, each one is read automatically for the things adjusters look for: hail bruising and granule loss on shingles, creased or lifted tabs from wind, dented gutters and vents, and interior water intrusion. You see the read right away, and so does our inspector before the truck leaves the shop.
For a damaged item you can walk around, like a condenser unit, a fence panel or patio furniture, two to four photos become a 3D model you and your adjuster can spin on a phone. It is not a measurement, it is evidence, and it is very hard to argue with.
- Hail
- Bruises, granule loss, cracked mats, dented soft metals. Usually a full replacement if the count per test square is there.
- Wind
- Creased, lifted or missing shingles, torn seals. Often a repair on newer roofs, a replacement on older ones.
- Tornado and debris
- Impact damage, punctures, tree strikes. Emergency dry-in first, then the full scope.
- Water
- Ceiling stains and attic wet spots point back to the roof. We trace it, not guess it.
How the claim actually works
The policyholder files. We do everything else you would otherwise have to figure out yourself.
- Free inspection and reportEvery slope, elevation and accessory documented with photos and measurements.
- You file, we brief youWe tell you exactly what to say when you call your carrier so the claim is opened correctly the first time.
- We meet the adjusterOur inspector walks the roof with them so nothing gets missed or minimized.
- Supplements handledCode items, ice and water, drip edge, steep charges. If the policy owes it, we ask for it.
- Built within 60 days of fundingOnce the claim is approved and funded, we schedule and build inside 60 days.
- You pay your deductible, that is itWe do not waive deductibles. Missouri and Illinois both prohibit contractors from offering to, and anyone who does is a risk to you.
Questions people ask us every week
Will my rates go up if I file?
Weather claims are usually treated differently from at-fault claims, and carriers generally do not surcharge one policy for a storm the whole region got. Regional rates move with regional storms whether you file or not. Your agent can tell you exactly how your policy handles it.
How long do I have to file?
Many policies set a deadline of one year from the date of loss, some longer; check yours. Do not wait either way: damage that sits through a winter gets harder to attribute to the storm.
What if the adjuster denies it?
We request a re-inspection with our report in hand and, if needed, a different adjuster. A denial is the start of a conversation, not the end of one.
Do you work with my insurance company?
All of them. We are not on any carrier's preferred list on purpose, so we work for you, not for them.
Can I pick my own shingle color and upgrades?
Yes. The claim pays for a like-for-like roof; if you want an upgrade, you pay the difference and we show it as a separate line.
